Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Team Versus Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-match ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a surprise inclusion.

Performance Issues Result in Omission

Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI side following managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has played 68 ODIs and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Team Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a Test return as Australia seek a fix to their top-order woes.

Pace Additions and Injury News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he aims to recover from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a 2-0 series win last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
